Full Review
For those of you who demand a lot of their elliptical trainer the ProForm 14.0 CE/RE might be a good solution, since it is one of the most advanced units out there. One of the things that make it stand out is that it couples the ability to simulate smooth motion, as well as power incline/decline, with the benefits of wireless technology. The rear drive unit helps with the overall balance and the comfort of the ride.
Powerful Exercise Using Technology
This trainer comes with a power intensity ramp that can be calibrated for workout under an incline, as well as decline, which allows for more variety in your exercise routines. Also, in case you happen to have an optional fitness system called iFit, the ProForm 14.0 elliptical machine is compatible with it and they communicate via a wireless adapter which is used for setting up incline/decline during the workout.
ProForm have already established themselves as a manufacturer of great exercise equipment, combining cutting-edge technology and superior craftsmanship to provide its customers with some exceptional exercise units. This elliptical trainer is one of the best models to come out of that approach.
For example, the already mentioned iFit Live system turns your usual incline/decline ramp into something more, by giving it a range of new functions. You can make your exercise more realistic by using iFit Live with Google Maps, which are used to mimic the real-life terrain you chose on the map.
Whether it’s the steep incline of San Francisco streets, or running on an Olympic stadium, all the info will be transferred to the processing unit inside the central console via wireless connection. The onboard computer will then set the incline or decline according to the parameters and the location of your choice. It seems quite a gimmick but it works really well, adding some interest to your workouts.
Other Fun Stuff
The heart of the 14.0 RE unit is the console. As is usually the case with units of this type, the large console which is used for controlling every feature of the device is mounted front and center.
Right of the bat, you will notice that it is a sizeable chunk of equipment, with a 5-inch backlit LCD panel which displays everything in an easy-to-read and concise manner.
Below the LCD panel are the 18 pre-programmed buttons which allow you to choose from one of the pre-set workout routines which suit your needs best.
When it comes to small luxuries, the ProForm 14.0 has an integrated cooling fan which is supposed to keep you cool as you burn those excess calories – as with most models with these fans the reality is a little disappointing. You’ll also find the usual water bottle holder which on this model is a decent size at least!
Of course, every workout should be fun, and to keep it more entertaining, there is a port for iPod or MP3 compatibility, as well as 2 built-in 2-inch speakers to blast your favorite tunes.
This model keeps track of your heart rate, too, via EKG heart rate monitor built into the handlebars, which allows you to make sure you are in the right zone to burn calories. To minimize the risk of injury and strain and to give you stability are the robust, oversized pedals, which numerous footing positions. The unit is designed to withstand up to 300lbs user weight.

What Others are Saying
Our research of the 14.0 RE included gathering online reviews posted by the people who bought the unit and were willing to share their impressions. Upon analyzing the reviews, we decided that the only way we could confirm or deny any of the claims is to try out the trainer ourselves, so we bought one.
As is always the case, there were some positive and negative reactions, so we decided to see what’s what.
The first thing we had had to do with the machine was to assemble it. The entire assembly didn’t take more than 2 hours, which is great, and makes this particular trainer easy to assemble and put together.
So often, negative reviews are based on the problems people have assembling the machines themselves. I know we are at an advantage having built up many different machines over the last few years but this one is particularly easy. The customer praise of this aspect turned out to be absolutely true.
Once we got around to using it, it was an absolute joy, running smoothly and with low impact to your lower extremities, which is good news for those of you with recurring injuries. Also, the iFit Live system worked really well and provided a unique workout experience.
On the downside, speakers could use a boost, but that’s not a major problem unless you’re allergic to headphones. The cooling fans on the trainer were also underpowered, and we struggled to feel any of the breeze they were supposed to provide – not unique to this model!

The Summary:
All things considered, the ProForm 14.0 is a good, honest piece of exercise equipment which will meet most of your workout needs. Offering a multitude of features, especially the adjustable intensity ramp and the iFit Live system integration (which is optional), the ProForm 14.0 is guaranteed to help you get in shape and have fun in the process.
The rear drive really does add something to the overall feel of this machine and should not be underestimated in this price range. Whilst not on a par with some more expensive club style ellipticals it does represent great value – when this is your budget range. Definitely my pick from the Proform range.
There is not much else to say, but to recommend this trainer. You won’t be disappointed.
